#NFU Farming Charities Summit, 5th September 2019

On September 5th Borderlands took part in a national summit, hosted by the NFU, looking at the range of issues that would affect farming families post Brexit.

The implications for farming in the short-term will be significant, especially if we exit without a deal. Perhaps the slide that really brought it home for this part of the country was the tariffs that would be imposed under WTO rules. The tariff for lamb, for example, is 48%. Since we export ten times more lamb to the EU than we import this has massive implications for the viability of our livestock farmers locally.

The networking achieved at the day is going to be helpful and all of the delegates wanted the event to be repeated so that we were in the best possible position to support farming during the years ahead.
